In the autumn of 2016, I read that at places around the North Pole the temperature was 20 degrees Celsius (36 F) higher than in other years. With such a rise in temperature we can expect the pole to melt rapidly. In a dark fantasy, I saw the end of humanity, not in a distant future, but during my lifetime. Fear overwhelmed me. The anxiety attack lasted about 10 days. The experience was intense, as if I had felt all the fear people feel over climate change.
I made the painting with my fingers; this is more direct (but less precise) than with a brush.
Painting made; this part worked out well. Unfortunately, the poles are indeed melting rapidly. And politically, a sense of urgency is missing.
Tempest, a series of paintings on climate change, anxiety and (ir)responsibility. This is the first painting.
